Himalayan Salt in Water - More Energy, Worse Allergies

by Gina A.

Question: Hi, I started drinking a lot of salt water and also plain water after I read Dr. Bat’s (Batmanghelidj) book. My allergies are way worse and my face has deflated it is so dry.

I want to stop, but feel the salt water has helped me so much with fatigue. I have more energy with it. I drink 32 oz jar with about one eighth of a teaspoon of Himalayan sea salt. Maybe I am doing too much salt. Thanks so much.

Nancy's response: As is often the case when people ask me a health-related or hydration-related question, numerous questions come to my mind.

For example, my first question is what type of water are you drinking? The type of water you drink makes a significant difference.

I do not recommend de-mineralized water (reverse osmosis and distilled). They are acidic and can make your skin dry. I do recommend high-quality filtered drinking water or ionized, alkaline water, which I believe is the healthiest water to drink on a daily basis.

Drinking water that contains healthy alkaline minerals (for example, calcium and magnesium) will help with the overall nutrient and mineral balance in your body. Good health is based on a dynamic state of balance and resilience.

If you are drinking good filtered water, then it is possible that your body is just starting to detoxify, meaning your symptoms (allergies, dry skin) may get worse before they get better.

There is no question in my mind that optimal hydration, eating whole foods (fresh fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, grains), along with regular body cleansing is the secret to health. I highly recommend the body cleansing products offered by Global Healing Center. They are safe, easy to take, very effective, and non-addictive.

Many issues related to both allergies and skin reactions have to do with the condition of the colon. You might want to consider a gentle colon cleanse 3 to 4 times a year.

My next question to you would be: Are you getting processed salt in the food you eat? Most processed foods, packaged foods, canned foods, restaurant foods, etc., contain way too much processed salt.

Adding one-eighth of a teaspoon of Himalayan sea salt to a quart of water should not be too much. However, I suspect you may be getting too much of the “bad” salt (refined, processed, white) in other foods.
