Ozonation instead of Chlorination to reduce lead leaching

by James Robert Deal

Chlorine, chloramine, and fluoride leach lead from plumbing. I have been exploring the idea of replacing chlorination or chloramination and terminating fluoridation as a means to reduce lead leaching.

See: http://fluoride-class-action.com/flint

Fluorosilicic acid breaks down into silicic acid. The amount of alkalinizer sufficient to neutralize chlorine cannot neutralize silicic acid. Silicic acid is long lasting and persistent at leaching lead.

Obviously ozonation is superior to chlorination and chlorimination at the water plant. The next question is whether it is feasible to ozonate the water after it leaves the water plant.

Ozone is easily lost through breaks in pipes and where there is air in the pipes. Water can travel many miles from the water plant to get to the tap. How many times would ozonation be needed in areas close to delivery?

Another question is whether ozone would combine with iron, copper, and lead in pipes and increase leaching of metals.

And a final question is whether ozone would enter homes and cause harm.

Feedback would be appreciated.
