Berkey Water Purifiers
The Best Portable
Water Purification Systems

big berkeyThe Big Berkey is the most popular model.

Berkey water purifiers are considered to be the world’s best personal water purification dispensers with the lowest cost per gallon.

New Millenium Concepts Ltd. Manufactures this line of gravity-fed water-filtration and water-purification products.

The Berkey systems are portable and can be used at home, for travel, for camping, or for emergency water purification.

They can even be used to filter non-potable water in places or conditions where electricity and water pressure are unavailable.

The Big Berkey is the most popular Berkey model and is used around the world by many international relief organizations to provide emergency drinking water to people during natural disasters or crisis situations.

Water Purification vs Water Filtration

What is unique about the Berkey water purifiers is that not only do they filter many unhealthy contaminants, but they are also classified as water purifiers because they remove both pathogenic bacteria and viruses by over 99.99%.

Many water filters on the market claim to be water purifiers, but they do not meet the performance specifications for water purifiers.

The Berkey systems exceed the standards for water-purification classification.

The Berkey filter media (Black Berkey Purification Element) has been tested by EPA accredited laboratories to exceed NSF/ANSI Standard 53 for drinking water.

The other thing I really like about the Berkey filtration/purification media is that it does NOT remove ionic minerals from the water. These are the beneficial minerals our body needs.

The Berkey water filter media can remove at least 99.9% of the following contaminants:

  • Pathogenic bacteria
  • Coliform and E-coli
  • Viruses
  • Lead
  • Arsenic
  • Fluoride
  • Chlorine and chloramines
  • Iron
  • Mercury
  • Pesticides
  • Petroleum contaminants
  • Methylcyclohexane-methane
  • Atrazine
  • Trihalomethanes (THMs) – 99.8%
  • Pharmaceuticals – 99.5%
  • Heavy metals – 99.1%

Berkey Water Purifiers - 7 Models

There are currently 7 different models of Berkey water systems that offer water storage from 1 quart (Go Berkey Kit) to 8 gallons (Crown Berkey).

Each Berkey system has 2 purifier filters which produce about 6,000 gallons drinking water before needing to be replaced. The Berkey filter life far exceeds that of other water filter dispensers.

All of the Berkey water-purification systems are portable and come in stainless steel dispensers, except the Berkey Lite which is a BPA-free, food-grade, co-polyester container.

The Berkey systems retail from about $255 to $400.

Go Berkey Kit – Holds 1 quart of water. Designed for travel, school, backpacking, or camping.
