Water Benefits Health News, Issue #40

June 1, 2016

Hello,,

The transition from spring to summer (May to June) is an ideal time of year to assist your body’s natural detoxification processes in removing excess toxins and metabolic waste.

Taking a few proactive steps now to help detoxify your body may lower your risk of illness and boost your immune system. Other potential benefits of detoxification include increased energy, greater mental clarity, and weight loss (when needed).

How to get started? Simply increase your daily intake of water so that you are consuming at least one-half your body weight in ounces of water. This means, for example, if you weigh 160 pounds, you would want to drink about 80 ounces of water daily.

If you are already drinking half your body weight in ounces of water, you can increase it up to three-fourths your body weight for several days, or even for a week or two.

If you do increase your intake of water, it is also a good idea to add a pinch of all-natural, unrefined salt to increase hydration and maintain mineral balance in the body.

To better understand the importance of the water and salt balance in the body, you can check out Water and Salt - Balanced Intake Is Essential for Health and Hydration.

Fasting on water for one or more days can also jumpstart detoxification and give your body a much needed rest.

Thus, our feature article this issue is about the Pros and Cons of Water Fasting.

If you are feeling more ambitious about detoxification, you might want to consider the Master Cleanse (a 10-day lemon juice fast), colon hydrotherapy, and herbal or oxygen-based body cleanse products. See articles below for specific recommendations.

P.S. As always, if you have a serious health condition, you should always check with your doctor before making dietary changes or starting a body detoxification program.

Water Fasting – The Pros and Cons

Water fasting for a day or more can provide significant body detoxification along with other therapeutic benefits. However, fasting on just water is also one of the most difficult fasts to do, especially during the first three days.

In addition, it is not the best means of body detoxification for everyone. For people with major health conditions, water fasting without proper supervision can even be dangerous.

Water fasting involves drinking only water for one or more days. This means eating no solid food and adding nothing else to the water.

The idea is to take in zero calories and to keep the body fully hydrated so that the body has what it needs to perform its normal bodily functions and to effectively remove toxins.
