Drinking water and oxygen

by JJ

QUESTION:

Hi Nancy, I was a smoker and have been diagnosed with COPD and had a heart attack in January this year.

I have had to use oxygen since this happened 24/7.....

I am searching for something to help me get off the oxygen. Would drinking water help with this??

I am a NON smoker now....
Thanks, JJ

First, congratulations on quitting smoking! That is a huge feat and I hope for your continued success.

I don’t know if water alone will help you get off oxygen, but drinking more clean water is really the best place to start. Proper hydration is the foundation of good health.

Drinking enough water daily is the best way to get oxygen and other nutrients to every cell in your body. This is especially true for people with lung and breathing issues since they are not getting full oxygenation through respiration.

In addition, the type of water you drink is important. You want to drink water that is free of contaminants but still contains the natural occurring minerals.

Water that is mineral rich is better hydrating than demineralized waters such as reverse osmosis and distilled.

To get started on re-hydrating your body, I highly recommend you read the following articles:

Drinking Enough Water Daily

Filtered Drinking Water - Four Important Benefits

And then you might want to check out the articles on my site under Water Nutrition for some of my basic dietary recommendations for optimal health.

In order to get off oxygen, you will most likely have to change your diet and consider gluten-free and dairy-free food choices for maximum benefits (at least until you see improvements).

There are also certain supplements that can help support lungs and bronchial health. Some of the products we recommend at the health store where I work include the following:

NEW: Cellfood Liquid Concentrate

Editors note: I was skeptical about the effectiveness of this product for a few years, but then I was given a pulse oximeter device (which checks your blood oxygen levels) and I was able to check my own blood oxygen levels before and then 1 hour after taking Cellfood. I was impressed to see at least a few degrees of improvement every time, and thus I now take it regularly.

Enzymatic Therapy Bronchial Soothe

Gaia Herbs Bronchial Wellness

RidgeCrest Clear Lungs

Note: there are a number of natural products on the market that might be helpful, but these are the ones I have heard the most positive customer feedback for lungs and bronchial issues.

CAUTIONS:

1. As always, people with COPD, heart conditions, or any other serious illness should check with their doctors before going off oxygen or making any dietary changes.

2. If taking medications, you should always check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any new supplements, especially herbs, because of potential contraindications.
