Water Benefits Health - Simple Solutions for Cleaner Water (Plastic-Free July)
July 07, 2022

Water Benefits Health News, Issue #78

July 7, 2022

Hello Water Friend,

Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people reduce plastic pollution so that we can have cleaner oceans, lakes, and communities.

Why do we need to reduce plastic waste? Thousands of tons of plastics are ending up in our landfills and bodies of water, and plastic is not biodegradable.

In addition, as the plastic starts to break down, it is ingested by marine organisms as well as many other aquatic creatures.

Before the plastic boom in the 1960s, we all got along just fine without single-use plastics. And we can make a significant difference now by avoiding single-use plastics.

A few key plastic-waste contributors include (1) plastic water bottles, (2) plastic bags, (3) straws, and (4) coffee cups.

Our feature article in this issue is “Solutions to Water Pollution—5 Simple Ways You Can Make a Difference.”

I encourage you to check out the Plastic-Free July website and take the “Pesky Plastics Quiz Tool” (takes less than 5 minutes) to find out what plastics you can readily change out—if only for a few weeks.

To cleaner oceans and lakes!
